A Bit About Me

Jennifer Marks Borishansky is a musician, educator, therapeutic drummer, and expressive arts facilitator living in Scottsville, VA.  A life-long lover of all music, she felt an immediate connection with the divine the first time she played djembe, and has devoted the last 13+ years to studying West African drumming and culture.  A long-time member of the Charlottesville Community Drum Choir and certified beginner drum instructor from Tam Tam Mandingue Djembe Academy, Jennifer is an eternally grateful guest to West African music. She is committed to honoring the history and respecting traditions of her teachers and the music she loves. Jennifer plays a range of West African instruments including djembe, dunun, balafon, kora, and krin.  Her great joy in life is sharing her passion with others. In addition to performing and drumming for dancers, Jennifer offers private and group lessons, therapeutic drumming sessions, facilitates drum circles, drumming workshops, and percussive dance classes for all ages and abilities.
